March 12 Tech Radar: N800's OS2008 (2nd take)I've got my N800 re-flashed with the new OS2008 linux maemo version...and although its UI larger and much more accessible...there's just this naggy voice that says, Tweak it...Tweak it. Its UI when opened, gives a larger and 'better-on-the-eyes' feel...yet it lacks a certain consistency. For instance, programs you don't ever use for instance the original File Manager, calculator, rss reader (there's always a better version to download via your application program) and it makes a bit of a clutter. What I did was to open a 'rubbish-only' folder and basically chuck all the unused programs within. Still, minus this little flaw that's taxing on your sight and time, there's really very little you would hate about this new OS2008. In fact, gone are the days of the sluggish 2007 version, where the mozilla-based internet is fast and speedy, making surfing a much enjoyable experience. Pretty sleek if you ask me, where with the tweaking of its current programs (polishing and ridding the bus), this 2nd gen Nokia tablet might be able to shine like the star it was meant to be. Did we mention you could make your tablet look like your iTouch or even play Palm OS games? You might have read tons of rumors about it being comparable to the iTouch, which seems more than a real possibility. You can expand its memory if you get 4GB SD cards as there are dual slots within this N800, hence leveraging this tablet to a large 8GB multimedia churner. What was apparent was that its calendar, to-do and summary add-on application (3rd party software) made a great difference especially if you need more than a mere paper-based diary. Write and keep track, set alarms and travel the world. This tablet does wonders in that sense. For now. It's more of a trial and error thing, but as far as I can see...UI ( I prefer the 2007 version), usability and the widening of possibilities (software-wise) makes this tablet a plus-plus. Of course, the N810 with its numeric pad would be great, but with the USB host add-on, and a female-to-female USB plug, you've got everything you could possibly plug-in; from keyboards (if you don't already own a bluetooth one...like myself), thumb-drives for document churning whilst on the go! As long...as these peripherals need not draw power from your tablet, it would be a go-go-Gone deal! Pictures: Sourced from the net March 09 Ariel's Muses: Lynn's wedding at Oriental Mandarin 1/3/08And yes, it was yet like every other day...but yet another wedding. Not that I'm complaining but this year plus 07' I've had over 5 weddings that I've attended. Me and my favourite peeps were there and that was all that mattered! With a ravishing bride (pink centre), what more could we want for the night? Still the night went well with all the usual cordial greetings and meeting up of old colleagues and friends. Pleasant and fun for the most of the night. Where...for a lack of a good camera, the food was extremely great. =X down to the last tee-bone spare rib. =p One happy family...hopefully it will be, for the longest time on... DIY-Publishing: Baby StepsHere's to taking a small leap in faith, and there we go down the publishing line. Been at Playworks for almost a year now, and yet the passion to publish is flaring again. Almost that impulsion to just sit down, think and regurgitate. Yeah, you heard me right. Regur-gitate. Verbal diarrhoea, so to speak. As a headstart, I tried at lulu.com, sourced from the good people at yahoo ( sociologist at heart). It makes one believe, at least in my case that publishing is a dream. Something that can be fulfilled if you try hard enough...and passionately believe in. Cheers, and hopefully these links help. If you like my work, or anyone else's work who might be on the web right now...give them a thumbs up and a pat on the back, as if it's something that's a passion, you got to believe in it, true and through, in order to make it happen... March 08 Trolling the IT Fair...Bargain BinSource: Marielwong.musicsg.com Went trolling around the IT fair for TWO days (yes, 2!) and I managed to get myself some what of a bargain. There were swamps, and swamps of people...moving was almost torturous. In any case, it was a blessing that we found WD, and yes, it means Western Digital...from the makers of Elements Book. Managed to find a store that sold it at $109.99, with a lovely red pouch thrown in =p The portable drive comes with an exclusive pouch and Carry it Easy backup software when you buy it at the show. The 250GB model costs only a mere S$164.99 but hey, if space is what you're looking, maybe 1-Terrabyte would be exactly what you're after! Comes in a 2.5" Sata external hard cover...quite a sweet deal if you ask me. There were many others to consider, from PSP games...They were going as cheap as 20-40?? as well as 8GB pro-two dual sticks ($129.90- sandisk) for the gamer addict (like myself, sadly), everything was below below.
March 06 Self-Publishing - Fact or Fiction?Alright. Back down to square one, where unless you've got parents who print for a living...yes, "print" for a living, money hopefully, you ain't going to go around, getting your novels anywhere near after you've obtained a PHD or masters, or become a celeb in your own right. These...are my initial plans for the book. Note, these are just temporary pictures and will change as and when. And of course...with a novel like Twisted Muse, I would say...it would be appropriate for something darker. Will post an excerpt of the novel soon, stayyy tune. Face it, books are books not because they are easy on the eyes. It's more of what and how you go about doing it. You could start at www.lulu.com, or www.iuniverse.com where the choice is ultimately yours. *** Source: www.cecibooks.com 5 Fantastic Benefits of Self-publishing 1. Control. 2. Money. 3. No Waiting, No Rejection. 4. Independence. 5. Power of Belief. Every good editor or publishing consultant knows that the best way to make your book a true success is to create and market a message that you will both be proud of for years to come. Creating uplifting books is a passion. Make it yours, and every one of your books sold will be a vote of confidence in yourself and the rest of humanity! March 03 Spot a Terror: If only we had this...Funnily, this caricature from talkingcock.com really hit the nail on its head. What with the fact that we might never be able to find the JI Terrorist who escaped from Whitley's secret facility that houses some of Singapore's terrors... Still, put this in your pocket and help the nation. It's been 6 days...and counting since we last heard about his escape. As we say: 'Help us. Help You'. |
